Education first. Coffee always second.

​It started with a popcorn popper in 2008 — no plans, no business, just curiosity about why coffee could taste so different depending on how it was roasted. That curiosity turned into an obsession. Popper led to upgraded machines, upgraded machines led to years of chasing the perfect roast profile, one batch at a time.

 

By 2018, "small beanz" had a name and a concept, even if it was just an idea. Life had other plans for a while — the idea sat, waited, and didn't go anywhere.

 

It came back. In 2024, small beanz coffee co. became official: an SCA Certified roastery based in Tampa, FL. Along the way I earned my Q Grader certification — the same credential used to grade specialty coffee at origin — so that when I tell you a coffee scores 80+ and tastes like dark chocolate and caramel, that's not a guess, it's a trained palate backing it up.

 

Today we roast on a Mill City gas roaster for production batches and a Nucleus Link for sampling, while doing all we can to be kind to our Earth and delivering the very best Specialty Coffee. Zero Attitude™.

 

18 years since that first popcorn popper, and I still get the same rush watching first crack happen.
